Overview

ClearOut is an Android application that detects and blurs faces and text-based personally identifiable information (PII) in images. The app is designed with privacy as its core principle.

Data Collection

ClearOut itself does not collect, store, or transmit any of your images or personal data. All image processing happens entirely on your device.

Advertising

ClearOut displays small banner ads powered by Google AdMob. The AdMob SDK may collect:

• Device advertising identifiers
• IP address (for approximate location-based ad targeting)
• Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)

No image data is shared with ad networks. You can manage your ad preferences or opt out of personalized ads through your device's Settings → Google → Ads.

For EU users, a consent dialog is shown on first launch under GDPR. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing the app's data (Settings → Apps → ClearOut → Clear Data), which will re-trigger the consent prompt.

Image Processing

• Images you select or capture are processed locally using on-device machine learning models (Google ML Kit)
• Blurred/redacted images are saved only to your device's local storage
• Original images are never modified
• ClearOut strips EXIF metadata (location, device info) from saved images

Permissions

ClearOut requests only the minimum permissions needed to function:

• Camera — to capture photos directly within the app
• Photo library access — to select existing images for processing

Third-Party Services

• Google ML Kit — face detection and text recognition models run on-device. ML Kit may download model files via Google Play Services. No image data is sent to Google. See Google ML Kit Terms.
• Google AdMob — serves banner advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data for ad personalization. See Google's Advertising Privacy Policy.

Children's Privacy

ClearOut does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
